White noise generator
Equal energy at every frequency. The brightest of the three.
Nothing is downloaded — the sound is generated as it plays, so it never loops and works offline once the page has loaded.

What white noise actually is
White noise is flat across the spectrum, which to human ears reads as bright — closer to an untuned radio than to rain, because we hear more distinct steps up high than down low. It masks the widest range of interruptions, and it is the one most likely to be tiring over hours.
Worth saying plainly: the evidence that any noise colour improves task performance is mixed, and the studies that exist are small. What it reliably does is mask interruptions — it makes the door, the corridor and the neighbour harder to pick out. Keep it quiet enough that you can still hear someone say your name.
Put a clock next to it
- 25 minute timer The classic Pomodoro. Twenty-five on, five off.
- 50 minute timer The university hour: fifty on, ten off.
- 90 minute timer The deep-work block. Ninety on, twenty off.
- Study with me mode Full screen, nothing but the clock and the sound.
- Aesthetic study timer Eight clock faces — pick one you will open again tomorrow.
Questions people ask
Is this white noise generator really free?
Yes, with no account and no limit on how long it plays. There is nothing to buy on this page — the sound is generated by your own browser, so it costs us no bandwidth to leave it running.
Does it loop?
No. Most noise sites play a recorded file on repeat, and after an hour the ear starts anticipating the seam. This is synthesised as it plays, so an eight-hour session is eight hours of genuinely different audio.
What is the difference between brown, pink and white noise?
How the energy is spread across frequencies. White is flat and sounds bright; pink falls about 3 dB per octave and sounds balanced, like steady rain; brown falls about 6 dB per octave and sounds deep, like a waterfall or a plane cabin. Switch between them here and pick by ear.
Does noise actually help concentration?
The honest answer is that the evidence is mixed and the studies are small. What it reliably does is mask interruptions — it makes a door, a corridor or a conversation harder to pick out. Keep it quiet enough that you can still hear someone say your name.
Can I use it to sleep?
Many people do, which is what the “Stop after” control is for — set it and the sound fades out on its own rather than running all night. This is a focus tool, not a medical one; talk to a doctor about persistent sleep trouble.
A browser tab can only do so much
This page keeps counting as long as it stays open. The iPhone and iPad app does the part a tab cannot: it blocks your distracting apps for the length of a session, keeps the clock on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, and turns finished sessions into streaks and a heatmap.
Worth saying plainly: the shield only covers apps on that iPhone. It has no opinion about the laptop open next to it.
